The team in Copenhagen recognise that tourism, in its current form, contributes negatively to climate change, and that people around the world are increasingly frustrated with mass tourism. However, they believe that with the right measures, tourism can become a force for positive change. Recognising the need for a different approach, they sought to encourage more sustainable behaviour among tourists.
Research revealed a significant gap: while 82% of people express a desire to be more sustainable, only 22% change their behaviour. The challenge was clear. How could they bridge this gap? Transforming tourism from a problem into a solution, they introduced CopenPay, a concept that turned sustainability into a currency
